Slovakia

Vignette

Slovakia uses a fully electronic, plate-linked vignette with no sticker.

Overview

Slovakia uses a fully electronic, plate-linked vignette with no sticker. Cameras at motorway entries read your plate. You pick a start date up to 30 days ahead and it begins at midnight that day. Prices are in euro.

How to buy

Where to get it

  • eznamka.sk or the official eZnamka app
  • Petrol stations near the border and operator points at the crossings
  • Self-service machines at the main border crossings

Step by step

  1. Open eznamka.sk or the eZnamka app, not a reseller site.
  2. Pick category D1 (a car up to 3.5 t).
  3. Type your plate exactly as written.
  4. Choose the period: 10-day, 30-day or annual.
  5. Set the start date (today or up to 30 days ahead); it begins at midnight that day.
  6. Pay by card and keep the confirmation email.

The traps to avoid

  • Reseller sites add 5 to 16 euro for nothing extra. Buy only at eznamka.sk.
  • You get a 15-minute window to fix a wrong plate; after that you buy again.
  • No refunds once it is active, even after a minute.
  • Cameras are automated: a missing vignette is a 150 euro fine on the spot, up to 800 later. Foreign plates are not exempt.

Local tips

  • The 10-day vignette covers most transits and costs only a little more than the 1-day one, so it is usually the better buy.
  • It is needed on all motorways (D-roads) and expressways (R-roads). First-class and regional roads are free.
  • A bypass stretch of the D1 around Bratislava has been vignette-free since 2024.
  • Motorcycles are fully exempt and may use the motorways without one.
